Black Widow

Let me tell you, I am tired of Marvel. Well, I am tired of the whole superhero genre as a whole. I got really into the Marvel franchise towards the beginning, but after Avengers: Infinity Wars and Avengers: Endgame, I just felt exhausted. I thought the pandemic had waved my “Marvel exhaustion,” but it did not. I feel like I HAD to see this movie to find out the origin and the backstory of Black Widow, rather than me just being interested in the story and wanting to see it. (Maybe that’s Marvel's plan, to get you to see it out of need rather than out of sheer enjoyment of the film genre.) I wanted to see this movie not only because of the feeling of need, but also because of the awesome cast that supports Scarlett Johanson. Although, I don’t think the supporting characters alone could have convinced me to see this movie. No, it was my need to see Black Widow’s origin that actually got me in the seat.

Florence Pugh is excellent as her sister! I hope she returns to the MCU soon, (as I’m sure I’ll be back) because she is just so good. She looks the part, she sounds the part, I just believe her in this role. I love Florence Pugh anyway. I think she is a great actress in general and I love watching movies that she is in, but, having said that, she was very good in this! Rachel Weisz is good as the

mother character. I love Rachel Weisz! I will watch almost anything that she’s in! I thought she was good, not great. It wasn’t anything she did, I thought she did her best with what she was given. I didn’t love her character, though. For some reason, something about it didn’t stick with me. David Harbour was excellent! He was my favorite character in this movie! He is so different from his other role as Agent Hopper in”Stranger Things” and I was living for it!

Each MCU movie has a similar feel to it. It all has to do with the way the film is made. I, for one, am ready for a fresh, new feel for MCU movies. I thought there was a taste of that with the shots of the trees and the shots of fireflies. That is what I am hoping Chloe Zhao will bring with Eternals, which comes out later this year. She certainly brought that to “Nomadland,” so let's have it in the MCU. I also quite liked the montage of videos toward the beginning of the movie! It made the movie seem more grounded and almost real life.

The banter between Florence Pugh and Scarlett Johanson’s characters was great! And made them

seem almost like real sisters! In fact, the banter between all four members of the “family” was great. I loved it! And, ooh! I just love when movies center around family and not true love or any of that BS. Over it!!

In conclusion, I’m assuming most people already saw this, (based on the box office numbers) but if you haven’t, you might as well see it. If you’re tired of Marvel but you still are interested in the Black Widow character, like me, go and see this movie. It doesn’t do anything new that we haven’t seen before, but it is in no means a bad movie. If you do see it, you wouldn’t regret it, well maybe you would, but you probably wouldn’t. I’d rate this a solid 7.5/10, which is high. I’d put it around the same “goodness” as “Dr. Strange.”
