Motion Picture Awards
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role:
Christian Bale, "Vice"
Bradley Cooper, "A Star Is Born"
Rami Malek, "Bohemian Rhapsody" *WINNER
Viggo Mortensen, "Green Book"
John David Washington, "BlacKkKlansman"
[Yay! If you know me, you know I love this movie. If you’ve seen this movie, you know that this is Rami Malek’s movie. He is so good in this role that he should get about every award there is, for acting. I could’ve seen this award go to Christian Bale for “Vice” but I’ve listened to the chatter and I agree, that Bale is playing a character that people don’t generally like while Malek plays a character that people love. So, even though the two performances were excellent, I would’ve given the award to Rami Malek, just like the Actors Guild did. I’ve also been rewatching a lot of Bradley Cooper’s work. He is really good! I’ve forgotten how superb of an actor he is! I think other people have too, which, in my opinion, is keeping him from garnering awards this season.]
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role:
Emily Blunt, "Mary Poppins Returns"
Glenn Close, "The Wife" *WINNER
Olivia Colman, "The Favourite"
Lady Gaga, "A Star Is Born"
Melissa McCarthy, "Can You Ever Forgive Me?"
[I’m not surprised. This is her season. She is taking home award after award. Like the majority of the rest of the world, I have not seen “The Wife” and do not plan to because I’ve heard it’s just a mediocre movie other than her performance. Personally, I think that Olivia Coleman in “The Favourite” deserves a lot more attention than she is getting but seeing as how I have not seen Glenn Close’s performance, I am hesitant to make the judgement that she shouldn’t have won.]
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role:
Mahershala Ali, "Green Book" *WINNER
Timothee Chalamet, "Beautiful Boy"
Adam Driver, "BlacKkKlansman"
Sam Elliott, "A Star Is Born"
Richard E. Grant, "Can You Ever Forgive Me?"
[Same as Glenn Close, Mahershala Ali is winning everything. In my opinion, he should. He really did so good in this role that I would be surprised if he didn’t win. I thought that his only real competition was from Timothee Chalamet in “Beautiful Boy.” oof! Talk about beautiful performances! He was excellent and deserved his nomination but talking about who deserved to win, yeah, they got this one right with Mahershala Ali.]
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role:
Amy Adams, "Vice"
Emily Blunt, "A Quiet Place" *WINNER
Margot Robbie, "Mary Queen of Scots"
Emma Stone, "The Favourite"
Rachel Weisz, "The Favourite"
[This award caught me off guard. Not that Emily Blunt doesn’t deserve to have won, she does, but I expected to see Amy Adams take this award. Especially after Regina King was snubbed for “If Beale Street Could Talk.” I was surprised, but pleasantly surprised, because I love Emily Blunt and “A Quiet Place.” Also, I love John Krasinski, so I am glad to see that movie recognized.]
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture:
"A Star Is Born"
"Black Panther" *WINNER
"BlacKkKlansman"
"Bohemian Rhapsody"
"Crazy Rich Asians"
[I expected this one to go to “Crazy Rich Asians,” but since it didn’t, I am thrilled to have it go to “Black Panther.” I think that if this film is going to be recognized for anything, it should be recognized for the cast. To me, that was the best part. Even more than the set design or the score, or other things it’s being praised for.]
Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture:
"Ant-Man and the Wasp"
"Avengers: Infinity War"
"The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"
"Black Panther" *WINNER
"Mission: Impossible -- Fallout"
[To me, this award should have gone to “Mission Impossible--Fallout” I though the stunts were superior to “Black Panther.” However, with that being said, “Black Panther is revolutionary in its field, so I can’t say I’m fully surprised. Not to mention its box office success. I think that along with the hype around it helped win it the award, not the merit of its stunt work.]
Television Awards
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries:
Antonio Banderas, "Genius: Picasso"
Darren Criss, "Assassination of Gianni Versace" *WINNER
Hugh Grant, "A Very English Scandal"
Anthony Hopkins, "King Lear"
Bill Pullman, "The Sinner"
[He is taking home every television award this season. He deserves it, too. He has had quite the career up until now, television, theater, etc. I am not surprised, at all, that he won this award after all of his other wins.]
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries:
Amy Adams, "Sharp Objects"
Patricia Arquette, "Escape at Dannemora" *WINNER
Patricia Clarkson, "Sharp Objects"
Penelope Cruz, "Assassination of Gianni Versace"
Emma Stone, "Maniac"
[I am not surprised that she took this award home. I have not had the chance to see “Escape at Dannemora,” but she is receiving so much praise for her performance that I would be quite surprised if she didn’t get it. As much as I love Emma Stone, I thought her performance in “Maniac” was not up to par and was not really worthy of a nomination.]
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series:
Jason Bateman, "Ozark" *WINNER
Sterling K. Brown, "This Is Us"
Joseph Fiennes, "The Handmaid's Tale"
John Krasinski, "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan"
Bob Odenkirk, "Better Call Saul"
[I can’t, again, say I’m surprised. After Emily Blunt’s win, I half expected them to award John Krasinski, but Jason Bateman has received so much love for this role that I am happy to say he deserved this win.]
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series:
Julia Garner, "Ozark"
Laura Linney, "Ozark"
Elisabeth Moss, "The Handmaid's Tale"
Sandra Oh, "Killing Eve" *WINNER
Robin Wright, "House of Cards"
[Remember when Elisabeth Moss in “The Handmaid’s Tale” was winning everything? Now it’s Sandra Oh. I think she was the clear winner. Laura Linney and Julia Garner are both from “Ozark,” so the votes for them might have been split, “House of cards,” I think, is to controversial what with the whole “Kevin Spacey Scandal,” and Sandra Oh is kind of on a hot streak right now. So she was the clear winner.]
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series:
Alan Arkin, "The Kominsky Method"
Michael Douglas, "The Kominsky Method"
Bill Hader, "Barry"
Henry Winkler, "Barry"
Tony Shalhoub, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" *WINNER
[I LOVE ”The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!” Okay that’s out there. Again, I think he was the clear winner. There were two people nominated from “The Kominsky Method” and “Barry,” which probably split the votes. His role is also a period role, and he acts the hell out of it so he earned his win.]
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series:
Alex Borstein, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Alison Brie, "Glow"
Rachel Brosnahan, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" *WINNER
Jane Fonda, "Grace and Frankie"
Lily Tomlin, "Grace and Frankie"
[Rachel Brosnahan needed to win. Not to downplay any of the other performances, but this is such a demanding role, and Rachel Brosnahan adds a presence to the role that not only makes her worthy of the win but needing of the win.]
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series:
"The Americans"
"Better Call Saul"
"The Handmaid's Tale"
"Ozark"
"This Is Us" *WINNER
[I don’t watch a lot of dramas. “This Is Us” is an exception. This is a show that is very reliant on it’s ensemble. Though I will say this third season hasn’t been as good passed seasons, there is one thing that this show never fails to showcase, it’s ensemble.]
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series:
"Atlanta"
"Barry"
"Glow"
"The Kominsky Method"
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" *WINNER
[This, as I said, is a period piece. The ensemble works so well that you really believe it is the period the show tells you it is! Although I wouldn’t have been surprised if “The Kominsky Method”, “Atlanta”, or really any other of the nominees had taken it, I’m glad “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took the award.]
Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series:
"Glow" *WINNER
"Marvel's: Daredevil"
"Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan"
"The Walking Dead"
"Westworld"
[I don’t know a lot about this. “Glow” was nominated for a lot of stuff, though, so it appears to be high quality, so I am sure it warranted winning its award for this.]
